Identity Theft

Identity theft can occur when an individual obtains personal information, such as your Social Security number, date of birth, address, and financial account numbers. Once this information is obtained, the thieves will assume or take on your identity, allowing them to illegally purchase items or obtain credit.

If you think your financial information has been compromised by cyber-criminals, call us immediately at 806.798.5554. You should also take the following steps to prevent damage to your finances:

• Review your credit reports: Check your reports from all three credit bureaus - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion - for any inaccuracies or unusual activity.
• Place a fraud alert on your credit reports. If you notice any inaccuracies on your report, contact the credit grantor or file a dispute with either the credit grantor or the credit bureau. You can contact the major credit bureaus for assistance with placing the fraud alert.
• Close fraudulent accounts. If you see any accounts on your credit report that you did not open, call the security or fraud department of the company that holds the accounts. Closing the accounts immediately will prevent the thief from causing more damage to your credit.
• File a report. You should file a report with the Federal Trade Commission online or calling the FTC Identity Theft Hotline at 1-877-ID-THEFT. Also file reports with your local police department as well as with the police department in the community the crime was committed.
